Our salesrep said that Sun does not plan on offering a 1 to 1+ upgrade. He said that since the CPU board needs to be replaced it is more cost effective to upgrade from a Sparcstation 1 to a Sparcstation 2. I don't really know if he meant more cost effective for Sun, or for the consumer. I'd love to hear more rumors about the Sparcstation 2. I also think that Sun is seriously depleting the worlds supply of capital letters. Therefore, I refuse to abide by Sun marketing's silly capitalization rules, like SPARCstation and NeWS (except to whine about it). Hayden Schultz MIT Lincoln Lab hadyens@juliet.ll.mit.edu

According to 30 Apr's UNIX Today, there will be no upgrades. They cited Sun as the source... Here at Hitachi, we had a 4/60 (Sparcstation 1) on order, and got a 4/65 (Sparcstation 1+) delivered. Now the politics begin!!! It's mine! John W. S. Marvin Hitachi Computer Products j_marvin@hitachi.com

Excerpt from p.4 of Unix Today(April 30, 1990): "It's only a 20 Percent increase in performance so we didn't think anyone would want to buy an upgrade," Banman said, adding that the cost of such an upgrade program would have been "prohibitive." ----end excerpt.
