[comp.sys.sun] Sun and SysVR4

BKEHOE@WIDENER.BITNET (05/31/90)

Hmm...in InfoWorld, I think it was, I saw an ad by Unix International for
System V Release 4 ... the ad spoke of "dozens of industry leaders have
already planned on bundling SysVR4 with their machines" (sic)...included
in the pagefull listing was a nice big bold "Sun Microsystems Inc". Sun's
shipping SysVR4? Or are SysVR4's features going to be meshed into a
future version of SunOS?

Sun has been saying for a while that there won't be a SunOS 5 - that is,
it will stop being called SunOS pretty soon. The thing Sun ships will
just carry the SysVr4 label, and it will actually be SysVr4. They're
billing SunOS 4.1 as a transition step.
