[comp.sys.sun] portmap

jaya@cpsacs.cps.msu.edu (Jayashree Ramanathan) (05/30/90)

We are running Sun OS 4.0.3 on a Sun 3/280 with two other Sun 3/280
configured as slave servers. Recently we have had problems of sudden crash
of the portmap daemon. According to the man page on portmap, this
necessitates a reboot of all servers. Does anyone know why this crash
occurs and also a more elegant solution to this problem (than a reboot)?

Any suggestions will be appreciated,

The problem has been known for over a year. Ask Sun to mail you the
binaries for the new portmap.

18375 24 /usr/etc/portmap # Good one, mailed to us from Sun
31258 16 /usr/etc/portmap.old # Bad one, from distribution tape
