[comp.sys.sun] SS-1 served by SS-1

bernards@relay.eu.net (Marcel Bernards) (06/08/90)

Yes, we run a SS-1 as a discless client first served by another SS-1. The
advice I give: Don't do this!! It causes system crashes on both systems
sometimes, specially if the server SS-1 is used as printer server for a LW
using transcript(tm) too.

Now it is being served by a 4/280 - runs fine now !!!

I think your problem is that the laser printer should be off-loaded to the
diskless node; the server SS-1 is doing too much! We have a 3/60 serving
3 SS-1's and get away with it because we have internal (local) disks to
cut down on swaps over the network. Plus, we're a VLSI lab so our work is
highly compute-bound.
