We've setup our SLCs with external hard disks and they work fine, however, when we put the SLCs as diskless clients of a Sun 4/490, the following message appears on the SLC: NFS write error 13 on host sunkiss fh 1607 1 a0000 e8a2 3cb0ccd5 a0000 2 446047ba This message will later repeat one more time and then lock up the console screen (or console window if running sunview). Anybody experienced similar problems? I used standard setup as described in the booklet "installing a Diskless SPARCstation Client" except the swap is on partition other than /export/swap. We are using SunOS 4.0.3.

I too ran into this problem three days ago. Fortunately I called my local Sun FE and he knew the problem right off. Error 13 is permission denied (I think). Solution is to add the following to your /etc/exports on the 4/490 /home -root=straub:schlitz where /home is the partition of the new swap partition and straub:schlitz in my situation are 2 diskless clients that have their swap out of place.
