I am trying to get a new SPARCstation SLC to boot from it's server. The boot never happens because the RARP protocol fails for some reason. Here is what I enter on the workstation: ok boot le() -a Booting from: le(0,0,0) -a Got error packet: Error code 1 Message: File not foundreceive failed Boot load failed This is what happens when I run rarpd in debug mode on the interface that the client is on: Script started on Thu Jun 14 14:46:14 1990 colossus# rarpd -d ie2 colossus-ie2 rarpd: in debug mode rarpd: starting rarp service on interface ie2, address 128.118.12.2 rarpd: RARP_REQUEST for 8:0:20:2:85:98 rarpd: good lookup, maps to 128.118.12.254 rarpd: delayed reply sent. ^C colossus# ^D script done on Thu Jun 14 14:46:59 1990 Here are the particulars on the server and the client: Colossus: Sun 4/490 Setup: 4/20 SunOS 4.1 (Hope to be SunOS 4.1) 128.118.12.2 128.118.12.254 8:0:20:8:fc:81 8:0:20:2:85:98 Ethers is served from NIS: colossus:2> ypmatch 8:0:20:2:85:98 ethers.byaddr 8:0:20:2:85:98 setup.cs.psu.edu colossus:3> ypmatch setup hosts 128.118.12.254 setup.cs.psu.edu I would appreciate hear (via e-mail if possible) from anyone who can tell me whats wrong here. There are other clients on this server on the same coax and they work just fine. Dan Ehrlich <ehrlich@cs.psu.edu>/Voice: +1 814 863 1142/FAX: +1 814 865 3176
