Our computer network has a Mulligan Stew of Suns of most all sizes & vintages (Including Sun 4 servers), Solbournes, VAXes and various MIPS-based boxes. On many of the Unix boxes, specifically including Sun 4 (SPARC server) nodes, we're running Ki Research's LAT & DECnet software. It's reasonably inexpensive, efficient enough that it's loading is unnoticeable and all implimentations of it we've run seem to be rock solid. The guy I've dealt with at Ki, Jim Corrigan, knows his stuff and is a compulsive truth-teller. The Ki software allowed us to use LAT protocol for our Ethernet terminal service. LAT, in turn gave us universal access to the whole mish-mash of computers and also uses network bandwidth more efficiently (for terminal traffic) than any of the options in the TCP/IP suite. My affiliation with Ki Research is as a pleased user. My company's affiliation is more than that. Because of our satisfaction with Ki Research's products and professional behavior, E&S has incorporated it in one product line, the ESV workstation.
