We just got an HP 95749 1.2GB SCSI drive, which we are testing for use on various Suns. No documentation came with the drive, so we working from the advertising specs for formatting info, and have left the jumpers at default. We were able to format the drive on a Sun 3/60 running 4.1 with no apparent problem. Not much testing was done here, but it looked ok. Then we tried it on a 4.1 Sun 4/280, using the si scsi board. It seems to crash the Sun from time to time, though consistantly during the verify phase of format. I don't know if this is a problem special to this HP drive, or a known problem with the "si" driver on 4.1. Anyone know? Other than this, I found the drive performance a little below my hopes. We also have an SMD super eagle on the system running off an XY451, known well as a slow SMD interface. The HP drive was only a little slower than the eagle as a raw device, but as a filesystem it was about 30% slower.
