I want to buy a postscript laser printer for a SPARCstation 1+. I can get an HP LaserJet III (incl. Postscript cartridge) for about $2000 at academic rate. I can get an Apple Laserwriter II NT for about $3000. Therefore, the HP is about $1000 cheaper. Are there any disadvantages to getting the HP? Can the HP do everything that the Apple can do? jodale@emx.utexas.edu

I have been using a LaserJet III (w/ an additional 2 meg card and HP Postscript card) for the past few days. It has replaced an Apple Laserwriter for testing purposes. In the few days I've had it, it has performed perfectly with all the various Postscript I've sent it (Scribe, dvips, xwps, etc.) from my Sparcstation (using Transcript) and the output is visibly better than the Laserwriter's. It appears to be the winner hands down -- I plan to buy more of them. -Ittai
