[comp.sys.sun] RPC Connections....how much do they cost in machine/OS resources?

How costly is it to have an RPC connection open (under SunOS 4.0.x or
4.1)?  I guess I'm wondering if there are similarities to file descriptors
here (e.g. taking up per-process table entries, system-level table
entries, etc).  

Any info would be greatly appreciated.
