We have just finished installing SunOS 4.1 on a SUN 3/180 server (which was running on 4.0.3 earlier). The problem: the disk-controller xd (Xylogics 753) is not recognized by the system at all. All we see during boot up is the XYc0 (Xylogics 450) and the Fujitsu Eagle 450 MB disk drive it supports. We have had the Xd controller with two CDC 9750-1230 Sabre drives on the system, working well for a couple of months now (with SunOS 4.0.3), but don't see why the device does'nt get registered during bootup. In fact, we tried >b xt()install xd(0,0,1) (at the start of installation) in order to load the system on the xd0 disk, but NO, it would'nt do that. ('Could not open xd(0,0,1)'). We suspected that there may be something missing in the EEPROM and upon examination of its contents, found that there was no entry for xd. There are entries for xt xy fpa and the cpu board. My question therefore is: How to get the system to recognize the xd ? Is it at all possible to use the CDC 9720-1230 Sabre drive as the system disk? (SUN does not support configuring a CDC 9720-1230 on the 753/7053 contr- oller). Any clues, ideas, suggestions ? Would appreciate hearing from you.
