System: SparcStation 330, running SunOS 4.0.3 I wrote a shell script that involved trying to get X11R4 up. In the script I had the following: mv /usr/lib/libc.so.1.3 /usr/lib/libc.so.1.3.save mv /usr/lib/libc.sa.1.3 /usr/lib/libc.sa.1.3.save intending to move them back at the conclusion of the script. (I know very well that this is NOT the correct way to install X11 -- that's not the issue here). The script aborted, and I rebooted. Now, I can't log in at all! Immediately after typing the username, I get "libc.so.1: not found" and get booted back to the login: prompt. I tried to boot single- user, which succeeded, but I can't move the two files back since, in single-user, the file systems are apparently mounted read-only. I DON'T want to get out dump tapes if I don't have to. All I need to is rename those two files so that libc is ok (these files are more important to the system than I realized!). Is there anything I can do? Email please, and the sooner the better! :-) Brian Russ CSE Department, UC San Diego ..!sdcsvax!bruss bruss@beowulf.ucsd.edu
