We have been forced, due to Suns infinite wisdom to convert from the Sun 3 line to the SPARCstations. The problem is that we are heavily based in VME. 5+ Gigabytes of memory, Image processing boards, array processors, etc. Sun suggested that we go with the SPARCstation 1+ with VME converters on them because the VME buses days are numbered. So we have to look into how well converters work and how robust they are. I fully expect a degredation in performance, but the big question is how much. There has been some fight over whether the S-bus is really the bus of the future. At this point, we are totally confused. Does anyone else have experience with this conversion? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Scott E. Gordon INTERNET : seg@hoppi.mitre.org MITRE Image Processing Research Laboratory USENET : linus!hoppi!seg Burlington Rd.
