Does the SS490 support SCSI hard drives? The answer I get from our sales rep is no. This, however, makes no sense to me since there is a 150MB SCSI tape drive and a CD ROM drive on the SS490. If these devices exist on the 490 then surely a SCSI disk can. This is important since we feel that 2GB IPI is enough fast disk and that we would rather spend 15k (university price) on 4.8GB of SCSI disk than 12-16k on 1GB of IPI for expansion. In some sense you asked the wrong question. Sun uses the word "support" to mean a configuration which both works and Sun "promises" will continue working in future releases of the OS. Sun may not "support" SCSI disks on the 4/490, but I was able to make one work under OS4.0.3. What you really want to do is check with Falcon and find out if their disks will work with the release of SunOS you are using. You should also keep in mind that you could potentially have problems with these drives if you upgrade to a new release of the OS.
