[comp.sys.sun] What is needed for a 3/50 to recognize a SCSI drive type?

freedman@euclid.math.temple.edu (Avi Freedman) (11/01/90)

I'm trying to get a Maxtor 8760S and/or a CDC 94191-766 (one at a time)
working with a 3/50. I've been trying for quite a while. What I've got
is:

	SUN 3/50 DB50><DB50---CENTRONICS><CENTRONICS--8760S--><TERMINATOR

When the computer is powered on, and once in the boot process, the drive
select light comes on on the maxtor and/or cdc, but when booting, though
it finds si0, sd0, sd1, sd2, and sd3, it fails to figure out what kinds of
disks are on there, and in fact it fails to recognize them at all. format
won't work; it says there are no disks present.

What I want to know is: How does it figure out what kind of disk is
attatched, and are there any programs for the Sun 3/50 which will let me
probe the SCSI bus to diagnose my problem?
