We have been getting the error: ie0: no carrier on our sun server (3/280) for quite some time. We have checked our tranceiver connections, they seem to be tight. We get this error a few times a day, and only one at a time. Clients don't seem to lose connections, the 3/280 is a YPserver, clients don't get ypserver connection lost error messages either. Any ideas on what other things we may look at ? Our network consists of a thicknet backbone, with thinnet segments through DEC demprs to each office pod. The sun server in question is connected directly off the backbone off a DEC delni. Up until a few days ago, we were only seeing this error on this one particular host, but now we are beginning to see it on various heavily loaded machines throughout the building. We have SYSLOG running, so we can see if there is any kind of relationship timewise w/ these errors. Thanks for any ideas you can give me. Karen Allen boulder!pvi!karena Precision Visuals, Inc. One contributor mentioned that switching from clip-on connectors to screw-on seemed to fix it, another mentioned that exceeding the cable length (approx. 50') could cause it.
