I've come across a problem with using ftp on a Sun SparcStation1 running SunOS 4.0.3c. When moving a file from a remote site to my Sun, the transfer goes fine. When going the other direction, from my Sun to the remote machine, the transfer goes so slowly it often times out. I've tried ftp'ing to various remote machines and in each case I see the slowdown. The only time I did not see the slowdown was when I "put" files to another machine on the same ethernet segment. Thinking it might be the gateway tying our local ethernet to the campus, we did some tests across the gateway from other machines and did not see the problem. Any ideas as to what's the problem? Trailers are turned off, by the way. Tim Lynch, Mann Library
