I am running into an odd problem with NIS and groups. We have a Sun network with 6 3/160, 2 3/260, 1 Sparcserver, and each server has around 18 clients on it. Ever since we upgraded to 4.1, the group NIS maps have been doing strange things. When someone is added to a group, and the maps pushed, the groups don't appear to take effect even after several hours, days or at all. If the person types ``groups'' while logged in, the newly added or removed group doesn't show up, but if someone tries ``groups <login name>'' it does show up. In any case, the person cannot access files under the new group id. Rebuilding the NIS maps from scratch and reinitializing all the slave servers does get all the groups to work right, but later on when another person is added to a group, the same problem comes up again. As far as I can tell, the problem may be intermittent, but it does happen quite often and is becoming a big headache. If anyone has any information or similar experiences, the help would be much appreciated. If this turns out to be a common problem, I'll summerize the responses. Jason C. Austin jason@xanth.cs.odu.edu
