Well I just got a SPARCstation 1+ 4/65 FGX (cgsix0), that is now occupying space on my desk. I'd like to play around with the graphics and use color for individual windows (I'm running sunview; not X, OpenLook, or anything else). I know how to change the rootwindow colors (-f, -b, -F, -B), and I know how to change the color of the *frame* for cmdtool windows (-Wf, -Wb), but I can't figure out how to change the color for the cmdtool *window* background or the text inside the *window*. Is it something simple that I just can't find, or is it impossible to do? Is there a tool similar to 'coloredit' that works with the FGX graphics under SunOS4.1? The man page says it only works for 386 systems, and only under 4.0. There must be something to display colors on the screen interactively. The manuals have the source code for coloredit.c, but I didn't want to type it all in and find out it's the old version. If someone can confirm that the manual version works, I'll spend the time (or someone can tell where to ftp from?). Anybody have any good graphics demos? I tried to run flight but it needs a 'gp window' which I'm told is an older graphics option. Someone might have ported it to the newer graphics cards, but not anyone I've been able to get in touch with. The only demos I have that run are the bounce, jump, cursor, canvas, spheres demos in /usr/demo/sunview1. What about background images (I'd love to get the Celtics logo that's in the manual) or audio tracks? I found some stuff at titan.rice.edu; anybody have anything else? Normally I would beat up the salesman for this stuff, but he's already useless. We got these things from some 3rd party distributor who knows that Unix is an operating system, but that's about all he knows. And I've tried the hotline, but their response is, shall we say, somewhat slow. Every day I've had this SPARCstation is another day I've learned to appreciate the Personal Iris.
