I am considering a Sun as a replacement for an ageing workstation I presently use at home. This system is used for text processing, software development, etc. I have some questions about SUNOS 4.1: What is included in the basic release: i.e., DWB (troff or ditroff), development system (pcc, f77, etc.). What about windowing and networking support? I will be using the system as a stand-alone initially, but networking is an option I want to have available in the future. I understand that SUNOS, in spite of the AT&T ties, is still based on BSD4.3. Is this true? How much RAM/mass storage is needed? This machine is not going to be a server. How does SUNOS 4.1 compare to the competition in use? How stable/reliable is it? (Compared to S5.4, ULTRIX 4.x, HP/UX, etc.) Thanks for your input.
