[comp.sys.sun] What is the overhead of lots of NFS mounts?

suskind@mdcbbs.com (Barry Suskind (E-Systems)) (11/27/90)

I am moving into the SUN server area and would like to know if there are
any benchmark available on NFS and the mounting of disks all over the
network.

1. What are the implications of soft vs hard mounts. If I get a timeout on
my server does this mean I lose data on the soft mount?

2. What overhead problems are associated with many NFS mounts on:
   a. the client side.
   b. the server side.

3. Does the automounter help?

4. What are the implications of having multiple NFS mounts to the same
   disk?

	mount bilbo:/home/bilbo /home/bilbo
        mount bilbo:/home/bilbo/software usr/software

    should I do this with "ln -s /home/bilbo/software /usr/software"
