[comp.sys.sun] 4mm Tape Drives on a Sparc 1+

davecb@nexus.yorku.ca (David Collier-Brown) (11/27/90)

We've had an odd problem with attaching a Dilog SONY 4mm tape drive to a
new Sparc 1+: when we do a mt rewind, the following shows up in
/var/adm/messages:

| Nov 9 10:39:44 vortex vmunix: st0 at esp0 target 4 lun 0
| Nov 9 10:39:44 vortex vmunix: st0: Generic Drive, Vendor=<SONY >
| Nov 9 10:39:44 vortex vmunix: 3.81mm helical scan cartridge
| Nov 9 10:39:44 vortex vmunix: Variable record length I/O

Yet on boot, it isn't mentioned:

I assume I have it in some way misconfigured (I'm assuming that SCSI
address 4 is wrong) but a horrible thought struck me: does the
GENERIC_SMALL kernel **normally* support tape drives???
