We have a VAX 780 with 2 megs of memory, NO FPA, supporting about 400 users (average daytime usage of 20 users). Also on the machine: 2 RM05's, an RP06, 2 TU77's, 2 ABLE DH's, 2 DZ's, an LH/DH to arpanet, a commboard to IBM-land, ... Given a fixed amount of money, will be improve performance better by buying 2 more megs of memory or by buying a Floating Point Accelerator? I hear that UNIX needs an FPA, but need a hard reason WHY to convince management that it's useful even though we have a minimal amount of number crunching... please send replies to ...!linus!peg. thanks - peggy craft
