[comp.sys.sun] uucp name != internet name

parmelee@wayback.cs.cornell.edu (Larry Parmelee) (01/07/91)

We have a Sun4 Sparcstation1 running Sun OS 4.1 (4.1.1 coming soon) that I
want to set up UUCP on. The UUCP software from sun appears to assume that
the UUCP name will be derived from the host's internet name: If the
internet name is "FOO.BAR.BLEFF", then the UUCP name will be "FOO".

Does anyone know if there's a way to specify a different UUCP name that's
not based on the internet name?

The file /etc/uucp/Permissions has a field that can be used to specify
your uucp name. This is very useful when your main uucp server goes down
and you want to use another system to spoof as your main uucp mailer.

The Sun administrators guide covers this,
