Our Sun 4/360 (4.1) server has a problem. We have talked to Sun about it, but no luck so far. In fact, they are not even sure if it is the hardware or the software. This server was upgraded from a Sun 3/160, but when we had it upgraded the ethernet board 'ie1' stayed. It would not 'ifconfig' until the Sun technician changed some jumpers. Now the ethernet interface seems to work ok, but it does give us the following every so often on the console: spurious VME interrupt at processor level 5 VME level 3, VME vector 0xffffffff when running 'etherfind -i ie1 -broadcast' it works for a while, then............ spurious VME interrupt at processor level 5 VME level 3, VME vector 0xffffffff BAD TRAP pid 3059, `etherfind': Data fault kernel read fault at addr=0x0, pme=0x0 Bus Error Reg 80<INVALID> pc=0xffe89ffc, sp=0xf8136d10, psr=0x110001c2, context=0xc g1-g7: ffefec00, f8167000, ff2338c8, ff281e50, f829f000, 0, 0 Begin traceback... sp = f8136d10 Called from ffe86fdc, fp=f8136d98, args=c 4 15 c 0 ffd2f8f8 Called from ffe867b8, fp=f8136e00, args=ffefeff0 18 8 ffffffff 9 ffefeff4 Called from f80d0fcc, fp=f8136e80, args=f818b554 143 ffefefec ffefefe8 13 d20 Called from f8039e7c, fp=f8136ee0, args=ff1a7e74 0 f818b697 409 0 3c7 Called from f8039d1c, fp=f8136f40, args=118000c1 f80d0ea8 0 0 114001e7 f81af1e8 Called from f8006e3c, fp=f8136fa0, args=f80c5d24 118000c1 20408001 1 35 f81a9264 Called from f8047d40, fp=f829ec90, args=a00 11800ae2 118000e2 11800ae1 ff291480 0 End traceback... (REBOOT FOLLOWS.....) Any ideas of what might be wrong? Do we need another ethernet board? Or is there some fix we can do to the kernel? Thanks in advance. bgupta@electra.caltech.edu
