Does any one know what "waiting for lock on /dev/ttya" mean? This is status of the printer in the spooling directory /var/spool/lpd. Although, I was able to fix this problem by rebooting the machine, I am curious to know what it is. The configuration of our network is 1 Sparc 1+ server, and 6 Sparc clients. An HP Laserjet III is attached directly to the /dev/ttya port of the server. Clients print by sending files to the server. The /dev/ttya port is turned "off" in /etc/ttytab, so getty may not run on that port. There are a number of things I tried before finally resorting to rebooting the server. I restarted all printer daemons, disabled/enabled several times, restarted lpd daemons couple of times, manually manipulated the lock file to store pid of lpd's, cleaned up the entire spooling directory, re-queued files, etc., but none of these worked. Thanks for your responses in advance. Binod Taterway LUBKT@vax1.CC.Lehigh.EDU User Consultant bt00@Lehigh.BITNET Lehigh University, Beth, PA. (215) 758-3984.
