I'm having difficulty getting a Maxtor XT-8760S to work in my Sparcstation
1+. The data in format.dat is as follows:

What seem to happen is that the controller reports an error whenever it
tries to access cylinder 1615. The error looks like this:
Block 13089113 (1615/14/7) Fatal non-media error (illegel request).
This error occurs when it tries to access any sector/head on cylinder
1615. Note that that is the first cylinder where the label is written.
A low level format works okay until it reaches cyl 1615 and then it
reports the same error.
The drive is configured for drive select 2 (sd2) and LUN 0. It is the
second drive in the External Unit. The first drive is a SUN0669 (an almost
indentical drive to the maxtor) and it has been working flawlessly. The
system finds and recognizes the drive. probe-scsi also reports every thing
correctly.
The Sun manuals didn't say what this error means.
Any help/pointers would be greatly appreciated. I have spent about 3 days
playing with this thing.
