No matter what one does with respect to sharing or not sharing libraries, there is no way to protect a program from a changing kernel or new microcode. The kernel is really one big shared library. In fact, on our UNIVAC 1100 implementation of the UNIX system, the kernel is precisely one of those shared "common banks" that was mentioned in a previous article on this subject.
