The subject basically says it all. I need to exchange data with someone who has a QIC150 drive and I only have the standard 60 Meg drive. What parameters does my companion have to with tar to write 60 Meg format tapes. Can't be done (at least to the best of my knowledge, but I'd love to hear otherwise). I belive the Sun manuals discuss the subject directly, and the table below summerizes it. Note also that QIC150 requires a different types of media when writing "150 Meg" tapes. Be interesting to see what happens when/if QIC525 become popular ... The QIC150 drives "autosense" the type of tape at read time. That's the pause and tape noise one first hears.
