[comp.sys.sun] "nit" interface on Sun OS 4.11

Does anyone know if the nit interface to ethernet on the Suns is safe ?
Ive heard a number of people claim it crashes the system.
(Of course that was in promiscuous mode). If it has stabilized, at what version
of Sun OS ?
