[comp.sys.sun] 8 megabit SIMMs in a Sparc SLC ???

wolfgang@wsrcc.com (Wolfgang S. Rupprecht) (06/05/91)

(I tried posting this to alt.sys.sun - but it appears that the
propagation of that group has problems...)

There seems to be a new larger SLC type of SIMM on the market.
Instead of the normal 4 megabytes it has twice the chip count for a
total of 8 megabytes storage. The organization if 2 Megs of 36 bit
words instead of the regular 1 Meg of 36 bit words.

Has some daring soul tried to pop one if these in the SLC?

The saleswoman at a DRAM place (HMO) was trying to push this SIMM for
the SLC, although she didn't know anyone that actually put one of
these in an SLC.

If the extra pins are wired up, and if the eprom finds the extra dram,
one could in theory load up the SLC with 32 Megs. A very amusing
thought.
