I have an old version of PC Xsight ( a X server implementation). I want to run Openwindows 2.0 from a nearby Sparc Station. The only mechanism I have is the ability to telnet into the workstation to initiate the X session. Then I must 'exit' the telnet session to permit the X server program on the PC to run. When I exit from the Sparc that runs Sun OS 4.1 , the process running olwm no longer has a controlling terminal ID assosciated with the telnet session. Thereafter, any cmdtool I try to start immediately hangs issuing ioctl(TIOCSPGRP). Can anyone suggest a method of initiating the window manager under control of a controlling terminal ID?? BTW, I have another Sparc running 4.0.3 of Sun OS. When I run the same procedure there, it does not the 'ps' command does not show it as losing the controlling terminal ID of the telnet session that spawned it, but the next cmdtool allocates that same controlling terminal ID. This sometimes causes that cmdtool to behave strangely. -- what is life but the taking of chances???
