I am using a Sun-4/370 with an internal 1/4" tape 150Meg tape drive. I am trying to figure out which the numbers after the /dev/rst mean. (e.g. /dev/rst0 /dev/rst8 etc...) can any one tell me what they mean or tell me where in the manual set I can find them. I have looked for them ang have not been successful.

Look on the st(4s) man page: For QIC-150 tape devices (Archive Viper): /dev/rst[0-3] QIC-150 Format /dev/rst[8-11] QIC-150 Format /dev/rst[16-20] QIC-150 Format /dev/rst[24-28] QIC-150 Format /dev/nrst[0-3] non-rewinding QIC-150 Format /dev/nrst[8-11] non-rewinding QIC-150 Format /dev/nrst[16-19] non-rewinding QIC-150 Format /dev/nrst[24-27] non-rewinding QIC-150 Format

The name "st0" is unit 0 at low density and "st8" is unit 0 at higher density. For the 150meg 1/4-inch tapes, there is no difference. -- Joe Smith (408)922-6220 | SMTP: jms@tardis.tymnet.com or jms@gemini.tymnet.com BT Tymnet Tech Services | UUCP: ...!{ames,pyramid}!oliveb!tymix!tardis!jms PO Box 49019, MS-C51 | BIX: smithjoe | CA license plate: "POPJ P," (PDP-10) San Jose, CA 95161-9019 | humorous dislaimer: "My Amiga 3000 speaks for me."
