[comp.sys.sun] FDDI and Sun networks

kkw@ucsd.edu (Kandi Kirk-Wilt) (06/05/91)

We are in the process of planning for a new building and I am trying to
determine the best network configuration for our SUN network. It has been
suggested that I consider FDDI given that we will be starting from scratch.
I am looking for good resources (books, journals, papers etc.) for a person
who knows almost nothing about FDDI to come up to speed. I am looking for
any users experiences as well that would help me make a decision as to
whether FDDI is a good choice for us.

I would appreciate anything you are willing to share on FDDI that would help
me get started relating to hardware and software issues. In case it matters
my configuration for the new building will be:

Sun4/280 server
Sun4/470 server
20 sparcstations of various flavors
10 dumb terminals connected via annex
possibly other non-Sun equipment that we would want to include in our network
such as: HP or Next workstations, and X-terminals.

I posted this last week I thought however, I never saw it posted so I thought
I would try again:
