I have a Sparc 1+ on a local network with several other different UNIX workstations. One of these appears to be running a crude yp server, that is it knows _very_ few addresses. As a result, my mail and programs with routines like gethostbyname mostly fail. The command 'nslookup' _does_ work, I believe that uses a mechanism which is fully functional on the local net, and is other than yp. Ftp and telnet have been updated, and now seem to be able to work for any node name. Another nearby net does have full yp service, but we have been unable to persuade my machine to use the yp server on that other net. Can any reader advise me of a set-up that will either get me yp service from the server on the nearby net, or that will substitute, for all applications, the mechanism that nslookup uses?
