I'm sure that this must have been asked and answered before, but I can't see anything anywhere. I also vaguely remember someone volunteering to keep an archive of format.dat entries, but I can't find a reference for that either - sorry .... Anyway - I am after a format.dat entry for a Fujitsu M2266SA 1.2Gbyte SCSI drive on a 4/40 and 4/350 under SunOS 4.1.1 Rev B. If I try the default drive parameters according to the Fujitsu installation manual, the format fails telling me that it cannot write the backup label and defect list. It reports a media error at a block number which should be perfectly acceptable. I have spoken to Fujitsu UK who tell me that this is because SunOS doesn't support Type 1 SCSI commands, and is therefore limited in the number of blocks it can address. They also tell me to beware of the block number rolling over and scratching the boot block (ouch !!) Their solution is to reduce the declared size of the drive so as to avoid the problem. However, Sun UK tell me that as of 4.1.1, SunOS DOES support Type 1 SCSI commands. There also appears to be an entry in format.dat for a SUN 1.3Gb drive. But I still can't get the Fujitsu to format correctly at its full capacity. So - has anyone solved this one already ? I can't believe that I'm the first person to have tried this type of drive on a Sun ... Many thanks in advance Andy Michael -- Andy Michael "You might think that.
