[comp.sys.sun] Booting Sparc2 from Wren7

abstine@hobbes.erc.clarkson.edu (06/28/91)

Does anyone know if there are known problems getting a Sparc2 to
boot from a Wren7?

I went through the entire install process, which ran successfully (including
booting the miniroot from the Wren7), but once it was done, and tried
to boot the finished system, i get:

Can't read disk label.
Can't open Sun disk label package
boot-block startup failed
Illegal instruction

I have tried it on a number of Sparcs and the result is the same. But... you
can make filesystems on the disk, write to them, mount them, etc... no
problem...
that works fine... it just won't boot...

anyone have any words of wisdom? do wren7's not work on Suns? The wren7 works
fine on all our other machines (DECstations, VAXstations, IBM RS/6000's, etc...)
so
I am pretty sure the disk works...

thanks ...
