Would you please add me to unix-wizards and infor-unix. If you are trying to keep unix-wizards small, then I imagine I wouldn't qualify since I'm not a unix-wizard; I would like to listen in, however, if that's ok. In any case please add me to info-unix. Thanks, Jeffrey Stone Menlo Park, CA -------

Why do (apparently-)ARPA "add me to the list" requests" keep showing up in various news groups? What's going on, are leaky gateways turning letters into articles? Surely the authors don't intend to broadcast their requests!! (This is posted in frustration, 'cause I don't know how else to reach all dem ARPAnauts, and the question is rhetorical, so don't bother to reply.)

From: Mike Muuss <mike@brl-vgr> The problem is that some ARPANET users don't think. They mail requests to the primary distribution address, and *poof*, out it goes. This is irritating, but it would be more irritating if the redistribution of unix-wizards was delayed by having a human in the loop to filter out the crud. USENET people can feel content that NETNEWS presently offers a better NEWS/BBOARD service than currently exists on the ARPANET. However, my experience with USENET is that the content is generally masked by a much higher level of "noise". Grin and bare it (sic)!
