[comp.dcom.telecom] If Your Phone Stayed Offhook In The Old Days

It seems to me, in the old days, they put a reed in the contacts of your
relay if the phone stayed offhook, and the reed was shaped such that a
jiggle would dislodge it and allow you into the dialer again, if you
pumped your switchhook. Or am I just dreaming it?
