AT&T, DEC Announce Joint PBX-to-Computer INterface Development AT&T and Digital Equipment Corp. recently pledged to provide mutual technical support in the area of computer supported telephony, including plans to develop a PBX-to-computer applications inteface. The applications interface will be based on ATT&t's application platform, the Adjunct Switch Application Interface (ASAI), and Digital's new Computer Integrated Telephony (CIT) platform, officials from the companies said. The interface will help customers take advantage of Integrated Services Digital newtworks (ISDN) and help meet their demands for multivendor connectivity, said Don Hirsch, vice president for product management at AT&T's Business Communications Systems division in Bridgewater, N.J. The companies will also work through international standards organizations toward a standard that allows seamless integration of voice and data-processing systems, officials of the companies said.
