Thanks to Dave Levenson for his in depth response to my posting. This sounds like what's happening. I'll have to change my message now to "thank you for calling xxx-xxxx. Please leave a message at the tone, and maintain a greater than 1:1 ratio between your voice message and the background noise level" :) :) :) /lou
