From: Doug Kingston <dpk@brl-vgr> I am happy to announce the availability of the second release of the Multi-Device Queueing System (MDQS 2.0) from the Ballistics Research Laboratory. MDQS is a sophisticated queueing system designed to work with multiple queues and devices in a network environment. The system allows the arbitrary mapping of queues to devices and has provisions for different forms and different servers for each request. Servers have currently been written by myself and others (such as Boeing) to support a variety of line printing, ploting, and batch tasks. Networking is provided via TCP/IP network connections or UUCP. MDQS was developed at the U.S. Army's Ballistic Research Laboratory and as such is in the public domain. Everyone is welcome to use MDQS and there is no restriction on redistribution. However, MDQS must retain all notations of its original source and MDQS may not be sold. It is permissible to charge to install and maintain MDQS but the original source belongs to the federal government and the people of the United States. For you commercial users out there, the distribution conditions boil down to this. You are free to include MDQS in any product you sell, but you cannot claim MDQS to be proprietary source and you must acknowledge the original source as the U.S. Army Ballistics Research Laboratory. MDQS is available by sending a 600 ft or larger tape to the address below. If some UNIX site on the net will volunteer, we may also make it available for FTP. Unfortunately we are not allowed to support anonymous FTP from out machines. Cheers, -Doug- Douglas P. Kingston III U. S.
