Thanks to all of you who have responded to my plea. The most useful answer came from several individuals, and amounted to looking for the command name in the core file. Since I did not have a copy of the Berkeley `strings' program, I was reduced to an `od -c' of the core file, which did turn up the command name. Many suggestions to use `sh -x' were also received, but due to the fact that the program which actually died was at the end of a long pipeline, didn't help. Once again, thanks to all, and to all a good night! -- Marty Shannon UUCP: {alice, rabbit, research}!mjs Phone: 201-582-3199
