[net.news.group] rmgroups in general

gds@mit-eddie.UUCP (Greg Skinner) (12/13/85)

[This is sort of a prelude to an article I will post on what I believe
is wrong with the net, and what can be done so that it doesn't have to
change.]

What all the cranks and flamers who threaten to inundate the net with
postings which were bound for a group which the net.wizards and
net.backbone plan to moderate or rmgroup fail to realize is that they
provide justification for moderation or removal of groups. What's worse
is that they endanger the future of the net as a whole, because the more
the people who control the funds become aware of all the net.junk, the
less they will want to have to do with the net. In short, you cranks
and flamers are cutting your own throats.

Whoever it was who posted that article about inundating the net with
articles which prompted Rick Adams to change his software to reject all
those articles, I hope you are paying particular attention to what I am
saying.

For heaven's sake, people, GROW UP. WISE UP. There is no reason for
all this net.paranoia and net.childishness. We must cooperate with each
other if we want the net to continue as it has. Uncooperation will
force the backbone into a decision which will change the net from what
it has been to something which many people will be unhappy with, and
then they will wish they'd behaved themselves while the old net was
around.
