As to memory management and "virtual memory": Not to split hairs
but I think what you are referring to is virtual addressing where
virtual memory implies paging (today).  By the way, I seem to
recall that 32v, and therefore System III and System V on VAX
do partial swaps and do not need to swap the entire process out.
