I don't if this a major item of news in the US but there is currently a big debate between the Labour party (the political party currently in government) on whether to privatise certain part of the telecommunication industry in this country. I wonder if anyone out there got any thoughts on this subject. Also I want to know why the left wing of the Labour Party and some of the unions are so opposed to the whole idea of competition. Isn't part of the issue the prospective involvement of foreign companies in the telecommunications system as competition to the domestic carrier? The Bell Companies are very interested in the deregulation of Australian telecom, especially since Bell Atlantic bought out the New Zealand telecom carrier.
