[net.unix-wizards] CBREAK on System V

twh@mb2c.UUCP (Darth Hitchcock) (11/28/83)

CBREAK is ISTRIP on SYSTEM V.

guy@rlgvax.UUCP (Guy Harris) (12/02/83)

No, CBREAK is ~ICANON on System V and setting VMIN and VTIME to whatever
values you think reasonable (the V7 driver acted as if VMIN were 1 and VTIME
were 0). RAW is ~(ICANON|ISTRIP|ISIG), also setting the character size to 8,
turning off all parity handling, and setting VMIN and VTIME.

Oh, dear, I wish people would read the manual a little before diving
in to reply to news items (besides which, the person concerned asked
for replies by MAIL !!).

Anyway ISTRIP just means strip off the top bit before passing the
characters to the program.

	Yours in hoped-for verity
