According to the local newspaper, the current 714 area code will be split up again. The last time they did it was when they created 619 for the San Diego area. Now San Bernardino and Riverside counties, and a few cities in the Los Angeles county, will have 909. GTE and Pacific Bell would make a formal announcement on January 1991, and the new area code would go into effect during 1993. They said that the demand for new phone lines for fax, computer and cellular services has grown up quite a bit.
