According to my old Armiger catalog, the letters are: C Connecting block on baseboard or in mounting box W Wall mounted set (e.g. wall phones which snap on to two pins on the mounting plate) M Multiple arrangements with up to 8 blocks X Anything else, typically physically the same as C S Single connector block, I suppose for arrangements where it is typical to have multiples.
