John Bardeen, 83, professor emeritus and faculty member of the University of Illinois in Champaign, IL since 1951 died January 30 in Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. Dr. Bardeen was a two-time Nobel Prize winner for his work on transistors and superconductivity. He was widely regarded by the scientific community as a genius on the level of Albert Einstein. Dr. Bardeen was the last surviving member of the Bell Telephone Laboratories team that invented the transistor many years ago which as we all know prompted the electronics revolution. We owe him a moment of silent praise and thanks. PAT
